Flaws in the Laws of Attraction and Prosperity

Have you read the prosperity guru's laws of prosperity - put every single thing into place just to find yourself POOR(er) and with LESS BELIEF than when you started?

Most "guru's" talk about the laws of giving and receiving without providing the fine detail that makes all the difference in actually achieving prosperity.

I can't recall the number of people who report following the laws of prosperity just to end up completely broke for giving away their money and possessions with absolutely no evidence of prosperity in sight.

If you find yourself relating to this scenario - don't despair. You can still trust your inner belief that the theories are real. You must also "know" that you are not the one person that is not meant to be prosperous.

Just because it hasn't worked for you up until now, does not mean that you are not meant for all the success you desire. It just means that you have something else to learn.

In this discussion we are going to address the principle of Giving.

Most prosperity proponents talk about giving in such a limited way (and even those that are more expansive with their explanation) as to lead the prosperity student to believe that the giving they must do so to their own sacrifice.

I have heard about people completely giving away their furnishing - because of the vacuum theory. Nature abhors a vacuum...Give away what it is that you desire for yourself. Well, mostly these students just end up sitting on the floor - feeling foolish.

Giving IS an essential law of prosperity - but you must embrace the whole law. There are three types of giving and all are required to bring about the desires of our imagination.

The first type of giving is - giving back to God. You can not possibly say that you embrace the belief that there is abundance in the universe if you can not part with 10% of the good gifts that God has already given you. In essence you say that you do not trust the abundance theory and therefore, can not participate in its rewards.

You must believe before you do. This belief is what drives your actions. Therefore, if you believe that there is enough prosperity in this world for you and everyone else - you must trust the same God who provides all prosperity with your measly 10%.

When I say MEASLY - please don't get offended. No matter how prosperous you are...compared to the resources that are available to all of us - there aren't many living or deceased who have come close to obtaining all the power and prosperity that is available to us.

After you give back to your creator; you must then give to yourself. It is amazing how many people have a hard time accepting this. If God created you - then you must be a valuable, lovable, deserving person. To believe otherwise, is to denounce God's creation and God in the process.

If you can believe you are an heir to God's thrown; a child of the King - and live from this belief; without arrogance, but thanksgiving and humility - you can then be open to accepting the good things that the position allows.

Many students mistakenly begin to live beyond their financial means after a statement like the above - because a caution is necessary and often not included. Yes, you are a child, a very creation of the creator of all good things - and your beliefs so far in life have brought you to the very place you are currently in.

Your beliefs and actions upon the laws of prosperity will change your life - but most students have an emotional belief in the theory and don't quite execute properly right out of the gate.
You must be sure you have removed the obstacles to your prosperity before significant benefits are observed.

We will talk about being thankful in another message.

Just know that giving to yourself does not mean you have to run up your credit card buying symbols of wealth. You will never become prosperous by charging your symbols of prosperity.

Giving to yourself could simply mean that you take time to meditate or practice yoga or learn something new. You can be generous to yourself without involving debt or even purchasing a thing.

Lastly, giving to others.

The benefits to giving to ourselves are very often over shadowed by giving to others. While this may seem altruistic and honorable - it is really an error that keeps prosperity from flowing into our lives; and it may also block prosperity from flowing into the lives of those we are supposedly helping.

I know this isn't an easy thing for most of us to believe - but consider the parent who over indulges a child even into adulthood. The parent is very often sacrificing their own security and happiness for the child they love so dearly.

There are so many levels where this is wrong.

Not only is the child learning an unhealthy behavior - At the same time this behavior is stopping the child from learning valuable lessons that need to be learned before growth will occur.

We can all relate, I think, to this scenario. A person must first be balanced and growing in their own development before they are equipped to give any good things to anyone else. Love in and of itself is not sufficient to direct us to do that which is correct and in the best interest of others.

Just think of the couple who marries too young before they have any understanding of who they are and what they desire in a partner - love is not the only requirement for serving others. We must also be equipped ourselves with the tools of service.

One of the easiest ways to develop the gifts of giving to others is to ask for guidance from God. This simple act opens up the opportunity for blessings to flow through you for the good of others. When you ask for divine guidance - you are directed in what and how to give so that you are fulfilling the desires of God and truly being a blessing to others.

In this way, you are becoming an instrument in Gods plan for others. Let yourself be used by God by seeking direction.

These steps prepare you to be open to receive.

See It Before You Receive It

Have you ever witnessed a great athlete visualize their event right before they take their swing or approach their starting position? Every successful coach and athlete know how critical it is to banish doubt and only visualize success.

I am always amazed at how Olympic gymnasts are able to fall off an apparatus and get right back on and perform like nothing went wrong. How much mind control does that take? I have researched this visualization phenomena and discovered that it is not just limited to athletics.

Visualization is an essential tool for business success - or success in any endeavor.

If your mind can not conceive of a thing - chances are you will not be able to achieve your goals. It is like baking a cake for the very first time and you have no recipe and you've never actually seen a cake baked before. What are the chances that just because you have flour, eggs, butter, sugar, salt out on the counter you will actually end up with a cake if you have no plan and no end result in mind?

There is another concept embedded here - the idea that there must be an intelligence behind the creation of a thing. Things, goals, results don't just appear out of nothingness.

So, one of the master keys to actually getting what it is you are after is to have a vision. This vision should be as real as you can make it. If you have a goal to be the top salesperson at your company, you need to create the entire event in your mind.

Everything you do from the moment you wake up until you are handed the award at the National Sales Meeting. Rolling out of bed, hugging your puppies (of course I have to hug the puppies before I do anything else), what you eat for breakfast, the flavor of coffee, the smell of the coffee, all the up to...

what you say at the podium, the sounds you hear, the texture of the food you ate, the smells. Enlist as many senses as you can and keep replaying that vision over and over again.

Before you know it you will actually begin to act on that goal - you will be fearless when calling on new prospects; you will begin to associate with different crowds, your attitude will change - seeing opportunities instead of obstacles.

The attainment of anything you desire is directly correlated to how well you first see it in your mind.

The world within is governed by mind. When we discover this world we shall find the solution for every problem, the cause for every effect; and since the world within is subject to our control, all laws of power and possession are also within our control. Charles F. Haanel

Motivation NOT Required

Have you blamed your lack of motivation for your lack of success

In reaching your goals?

Have you spent years making BIG plans for self improvement –

just to have those plans die before they ever get started?

Do you have good intentions to start that diet, or learn Spanish or hike

the Appalachian trail – stay motivated for about 2 days then go right

back to couch and nacho’s at night?

You are not alone – and it is not because you are lazy or not

smart enough!  It is because we have been led to believe that all

successful people we read about or see on TV are successful

because they have the motivation gene that we just didn’t get.

Would you be surprised if I told you that those “super successful”

athletes or business people aren’t any more “motivated” than you are?

How can that be?  Look at all they have achieved.  You have to be

motivated to get up at 5:00 am to work out every day – DON”T YOU?

Here is a little secret about motivation…it is not just something we

“will” ourselves into having.  Motivation is real – no doubt – but it

is not a matter of our desire that creates motivation.

First, there must be a compelling reason for the goal.  Like, it is life

or death – you want it that much.  A passion so deep that no matter

how many times you fall – you keep getting back up until the

mission is complete.

Falling…that brings me to another critical point that most people who

do not accomplish their goals have in common – and that no successful

person in the world ever does:  You are going to fail, fall, have setbacks,

stumble…just accept that as part of trying.

Most of us jump right off the wagon if we hit one little stumbling

block.  Well, I was doing great on my diet for 2 weeks but then I went

to this party and ate cookies, pastry, pizza….I might as well forget the plan

I had for this 12 weeks – it’s over.

What successful people do – is say..okay, that was not a wise choice or

yeah, this or that happened but my goal is still there and I am closer than

I was before…I’ll just keep heading in that direction.  Make some corrections

so the next time I am faced with this particular situation I will handle it

better.   An OFF they go…moving closer to their goal.

While the “unmotivated” person, jumps off the ship and decides

Well, I’m off the ship already, I guess drowning is better than

Getting back in the boat and continuing on with the trip!   Does that

Make ANY sense at all?

Of course it doesn’t.  So WHY, WHY, WHY do we do it?

First, our expectations for perfection are setting us up for trouble.  Let me

just reveal a huge success secret to you right now – this one is for free:

there is no such thing as perfection – GET OVER IT!

No matter what your plan, goals or dreams are – you are going to have

setbacks.  Expect them – watch for them – debrief with yourself after

you experience one.  Learn from it and Move ON toward your goal.

Most people achieved their greatest success one step

beyond what looked like their greatest failure.

Brian Tracy

So, how do you stay on track and moving toward your goal?

You must be able to get down to the real reason behind your goal.

Whatever that goal is – there is some underlying reason behind

Your desire that you must figure out in order to stay “motivated”

Through the challenges you WILL face.

The goal with a solid, passionate reason behind it will be achieved.

Nothing can derail you if you understand the underlying passion.

If you for example want to loose weight – your actual goal is not a

To achieve a particular number on a scale.  Nobody wants to be

“145lbs”  - that doesn’t even mean anything to your subconscious.

Wanting to look good in your bathing suit is a great goal – but,

again, it is not the real reason and it is not powerful enough to

keep you on target to reaching your goal – let alone keeping it

once you do achieve it.

What you need though is a deeper reason behind that goal

in addition to a secondary goal.  Once you achieve your goal

weight – then what?

What is your real reason for wanting to be that weight?  Is it to

achieve an abundant level of energy so that you can play with your

kids for more than 15 minutes without getting winded!

The point is to drill down – until you feel the real passion to achieve

Your goal.

If it is to loose weight (drill down)….look good this summer

(drill farther)….have energy to play on the beach with the kids (farther)

….live life on purpose and with passion.  Now that is a goal I can get

behind.  Keep going because it isn’t quite enough.

Why? Why? Why? Keep asking Why.

Did your parents die too young or age too fast because of their lifestyle?

Do you want to show your kids that they have control over their own health

and destiny.

Whatever the goal – you must have a passion behind it that will not

let you quit.

“Most people are other people.  Their thoughts are someone

else’s opinions, Their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation.”

Oscar Wilde

Your dreams and passions must be your own.  Find your own passions – what

Great goals do you have and what are the reasons for those goals.  Make big,

Outrageous goals –  and don’t listen to anyone who tells you – you can not

Achieve them.

Make your Life a series of outrageous goals attempted.  Imagine your life if

You actually achieve a few of them!
